Hard and soft edges

Hard and soft edges

Lisa isn't in the studio at the moment, so I decided to do some painting over the last few days. Today was atrocious. I'm not a hard-edge painter, as I am very expressive with my brushstrokes. Today, I struggled to get what I wanted from my head to the canvas. It reminds me how different it is to work in fiber, where all the edges are hard, and blending color becomes a trick of the eye. Also, the colors are saturated, and do not muddy the way paint can. Working in fabric is practically the opposite of working in paint…at least the way I do it.
So I'm happy it’s almost the weekend, and I’ll have a few days to walk away and reset. In the meantime, I’m showing a piece we created years ago, which has a wonderful blending of hard edges that creates dramatic, bold color. Not at all muddy!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! If Lisa were here, she’d say the same!
